12MW power okyed for Gwadar Airport

Gwadar: 12MW electricity approved for New Gwadar International Airport About 12MW electricity has been approved for New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) so that all the 24 hours electricity needs can be met without any interruption.

On the special instructions of the Ministry of Planning, the National Power Distribution Company Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) in Balochistan has officially sanctioned 12 MW of electricity for making the New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) operational and has installed its own on site.  Complete implementation has been started by appointing special teams.

According to QESCO officials, the tenting and commissioning process is likely to be completed in 10 days as all necessary equipment such as pole erection, transmission lines, and electrical input and output circuits have already been connected to the installed power system.  To keep supply smooth and free from power breakdowns, 12 MW power will be available 24 hours to NGIA as three power transmission lines will feed NGIA.

This means that if one goes out of function, the second will be automatically connected and if the second breaks down, the third will be in the system as a backup arrangement, he added.  Explaining the three power transmission lines, he said, one power supply is coming from 286 km long, 132 KV dual circuit transmission line through Nalbasimahnag-Panjgur, second from Mandpashen-Turbat transmission line to Gwadar grid station and third from Gibramdan power transmission line to Jevini-Gwadar.

With the completion of the electrification process, NGIA is expected to welcome domestic and international flights in mid-September this year, marking a new era of modern aviation.  The New Gwadar International Airport project was initiated in 2014 as an early priority project of the CPEC programme.

Moreover, Director General GDA Mujibur Rahman Qambrani has said that Gwadar will be the biggest commercial center of the region thanks to the Special Economic District. The role of builders and developers is important in the development of Gwadar.

Under the Special Economic District model, one window facility will be provided to investors and industrialists. The one window facility will be a paperless, online and public friendly procedure. He said this while talking to the delegation of Association of Builders and Developers Pakistan (Abad) at the GDA office on Wednesday.

The delegation appreciated and thanked the Director General for his efforts to declare Gwadar tax free. In the meeting, it was agreed to speed up the construction work in the residential projects and assured to complete the basic infrastructure in the housing societies soon.

The delegation said that the decision to declare Gwadar tax-free is a good move by the provincial and federal governments. Due to which the construction sector in Gwadar will develop at a rapid pace and will create a wide source of employment at the local level.
